Plot Summary:
Kurzfassung:
An honors graduate of Harvard Law School, Mitch McDeere (Tom Cruise) has his pick of generous offers from the nation's top law firms. But a small firm in Memphis lures Mitch away from the others with a large salary, a Mercedes, and even a low-interest mortgage loan on a house. The future looks golden for Mitch and his loving wife, Abby (Jeanne Tripplehorn). What seems like a dream come true, though, turns into a nightmare when Mitch discovers that this wealthy firm with a family-like atmosphere makes most of its money working for the Mafia. This knowledge could very well cost him his life. The exceptional supporting cast includes Gene Hackman, Holly Hunter, Hal Holbrook, Ed Harris, and Wilford Brimley.

Only two onscreen murders occur, which is fairly remarkable in an R-rated action movie, and these deaths are no more graphic than what can be seen on a TV cop show. The only sex in the film occurs when a man fondles a woman's breast and the two begin to kiss passionately. Sex between them is implied, not shown, and there is no nudity. Potentially objectionable language (including the "f-word") occurs frequently, though.

Based on the best-selling novel by John Grisham, The Firm tells the story of a man whose ambition and lofty aspirations are exceeded only by his strong sense of right and wrong.

An engrossing, suspenseful film, The Firm contains adult material that may not be suitable for young children. However, mature teens whose parents don't object to the movie's rough language will enjoy The Firm.

Discussion topics: listening to your conscience; how society measures success; accountability.
