On her first reaction to the script I cried. I thought it was a really beautiful story about two people -- two unlikely people -- thrust into a situation where they had to deal with each other, and to deal with this terrible flood. And by the end, they really grew fond of each other. Bt it wasn't necessarily a love story. Their relationship remained unresolved at the end. think the most bittersweet love stories -- stories where characters don't admit their love for each other -- are the best love stories. On the difficult conditions on the set It's been like this the entire shoot -- hot, muggy, steamy. Very, very unpleasant. But it's been good for the film. Because I think when people see it they'll get a real sense of the oppressive heat, and just how awful it is. Also, we're shooting on water, so the conditions are very much like they were back in 1927 when the flood happened. Everything's very authentic. On her toughest scene That would have to be where my character gives birth. That was really challenging because I've never had a child. And it seems that no matter how many women you talk to who've had that experience, unless you've gone through it, you just don't know what it feels like. John and Arliss both were pretty exceptional that evening. But, it was really scary, because, as an actor, I didn't have anything to hold on to. I didn't have any one experience that I could bring to that scene that would make it more authentic. Fortunately, John's been through childbirth twice with his children, so he helped me out. |
